If you know us personally, you might know we have had quite a time of it over the past decade or so thanks to lots of different matters! We won't go into too much detail but one issue finally resulted in us (through no fault of our own which was probably one of the hardest things to come to terms with) having to abandon ship and find a new home with some urgency.
Bloody hell it was tough! One of the biggest issues was finding somewhere that would allow us to continue with Evans & Moose and provide a safe home for our animals, whilst still being local-ish to elderly relatives. Lots of family members couldn't understand why we didn't just sell the animals and find a nice central heated office to work in if it was causing that much trouble... let's just say, we'd sooner sell those family members! If you #farm, no matter what scale, if you put your whole heart into the care of your #animals, the land, rebuilding machinery, it's just not possible to give it all up, it's the blood in your veins. We managed to find temporary grazing for our flock and Moose, but again these came with a timeframe...
Que the worst housing market in the country for a long time, recession, interest rates that made you want to throw up, it goes on... We got to the point of completion on one farm, which suddenly fell through (two days before Christmas). We had to clear temporary grazing and find somewhere else with no notice. There was a lot of gin consumed that Christmas let me tell you!
It literally got to the stage of f**k it, lets go and view this property, we literally have nothing to loose. We pulled up and just knew, it was the one! We had an offer excepted two days later and then began the six month process of buying our own farm... (not something to be repeated, or at least not for a very very long time!).
It was a year in January that our offer was accepted, so I thought it would be a good time to throw myself back into the E&M blog and share a mini snapshot of the last 12 or so months.
In June 2023, we picked up the keys to our beautiful 1721 Welsh farm. I've finally got back to my #Welsh roots and boy does it feel good. Our animals followed us two weeks later and we've been #renovating ever since!
We'll start posting reno updates on our socials soon but for those who want to know a bit more than a quick Instagram Story or Facebook Post is good for, I'll be writing on here a lot more regularly now that life finally feels like it's not going to be ripped out from under us.
That's nearly it for now, but before I sign off, we had a small group of family and friends who well and truly kept us a float through a very difficult time, thank you, honestly and truly for your help. Whether it was with emergency grazing, helping transport or helping us finally move, there were a handful of people who helped and never once made us feel like we were under your feet or an inconvenience, we'll never forget it.
